THE SPEAKERS
Simon Hartley, MSc. – Founder of Be World Class
Simon Hartley is a globally respected sport psychology consultant and performance coach. For almost 30 years, Simon has worked with gold medallists, world record holders, world champions, top five world-ranked professional athletes, Olympians and championship winning teams.
Since 2011, Simon has published twelve books, including Stronger Together; How Great Teams Work and Hire Great People.
During the last 20 years, Simon has also applied the principles of sport psychology to business, education, healthcare, the military and the charity sector. This has included projects with some of the world’s leading corporations and foremost executives. He is also an award winning international professional speaker, delivering keynotes throughout the world.
Tony Underwood – Former British & Irish Lions rugby star and A380 captain.
Tony Underwood is best known as an England international and British & Irish Lions rugby player. As well as a successful professional club career for Leicester Tigers and Newcastle Falcons, Tony was capped 27 times by England and once by the British & Irish Lions.
Despite his many successes on the rugby field, Tony is remembered by many as the man who failed to stop Jonah Lomu in the World Cup semi-final of 1995, in Johannesburg. It’s a moment that had a profound impact on his life and has shaped his leadership.
Post rugby, Tony turned his focus to aviation. He began his flying career with EasyJet, before moving to Virgin Atlantic and finally Emirates, where he captained the A380 ‘super jumbo’.
Today, Tony helps organisations unlock excellence by fostering cultures that lead through care to inspire exceptional performance.
Tony also recognises that care doesn’t stop within an organisation’s walls. When businesses embrace care as a core value, it extends outward and can create impact on wider society. Aligning internal cultures with external action creates organisations that thrive while making a meaningful difference in the world.
Nick Parkes – Open water swimming world champion and cardiac champion.
Having swum competitively since he was young, Nick Parkes returned to the sport as an open water swimmer in 2010 and discovered he had unlocked a formidable power.
Since then, he has won a host of championships including the Spanish, German, Austrian and UK National Championships (which he has held for 10 years), and has been crowned European and World Champion.
In his words, Nick “died in the water” in 2023, when he suffered a cardiac arrest during the UK Championships in Sheffield.
Alongside his day job as a management consultant, Nick is now a cardiac health champion. He is on a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of communities, and empowering individuals to take proactive steps towards heart health.
As he says, “By focusing on raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases, promoting healthy lifestyles and information for early detection and prevention I am going to make changes to reduce the unacceptable incidents and deaths and improve the overall health of our communities.”
